Will the $999 price tag be worth it?

If you haven’t heard, Apple announced a new line of phones including the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and the highly rumored iPhone X (pronounced Ten). The iPhone X was released to mark the 10-year anniversary of the first ever iPhone and (in my opinion) they should have waited. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very sharp looking! The new edge-to-edge design and all-glass enclosure makes it look futuristic.

Iphone X - Is it worth it?

So, is all this hype worth the price tag of $999?

Besides the new design, there are some internal upgrades to mention as well. Here’s all you need to know to make the decision if the iPhone X is worth the price.

Cutting-edge OLED Display

The iPhone X features an OLED screen, measuring 5.8 inches diagonally across. OLED’s compared to the LCD panels Apple is currently using, light up individual pixels when necessary rather than requiring a backlight. OLED screens make whites brighter and blacks blacker, the results? A longer battery life and faster response times.

Facial Recognition through TrueDepth Camera

Is the iPhone X Worth the price?

The biggest rumored feature that came to be true is the TrueDepth camera. Through a system called Face ID, users can unlock their phones with just their faces. This technology uses depth-sensing technologies, mapping your face with 30,000 invisible dots. Face ID can also be used when checking out with Apple Pay.

Worried about your selfie? With the iPhone X’s new Portrait Mode, you can take selfies with sharp foregrounds and artfully blurred backgrounds. And if you’ve ever wanted to be an emoji, well now you can. With TrueDepth, Apple created a feature called Animoji. Your front camera analyzes more than 50 different muscle movements and mirrors them with one of the 12 different Animoji’s.

The Insides - A11 Bionic

The iPhone X sports Apple’s latest chip, the A11 Bionic. This piece of technology is (according to Apple) the most powerful chip yet. With the ability to perform 600 billion operations per second, it sounds pretty smart.

If you’re upset with your current phone’s speed, this new iPhone is going to be fast. The four efficiency cores are up to 70 percent faster than the A10 Fusion. Into gaming? The A11 Bionic powers augmented reality experiences in games and apps. But will you actually take advantage of this feature?

Wireless Charging

Catching up to their competition, Apple finally made their new devices able to charge without wires. Working with Qi, your iPhone X will be able to charge anywhere that has Qi wireless charges. Most Qi chargers today are found in hotels, cafes, airports, and even some cars.

Say Bye to the Home Button

The rumors were true about this feature as well, the iPhone X will have no home button. Users will now have to ‘simply’ swipe up from the foot of the screen to return home. This feature was the kicker for me. What about muscle memory? What about screen shots? What if my friend needs to use my phone and doesn’t have my face? Just saying…

You be the judge

Don’t listen to me and my opinions, some of these features are pretty darn cool!
